Vintage Notes

This is a tart, distinctive, food wine. The cool growing season was slow to ripen the old Zinfandel vines at 1400 feet on Monte Bello Ridge. Through tasting we found that the addition of one barrel of Petite Sirah moderated the very firm acidity and provided a solid base for the wine’s elegant structure. The distinctive fruit typical of the vineyard developed while in small cooperage. It should be laid down for at least two more years in bottle.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge produced its first vintage as a bonded winery in 1962. With the 1982 wines we celebrate our twentieth anniversary. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged-cap fermentation, use of the natural wine yeasts, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
