Vintage Notes

The Jimsomare Vineyard on Monte Bello ridge was the first planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1890s, winning acclaim in two Paris Expositions. The vineyard was again planted to cabernet in the 1970s. The pronounced varietal fruit and the intensity of the wine have been typical of each vintage. The tannin will soften and the wine develop with five to ten years of further aging; however, it should be accessible enough to be quite enjoyable within a year or two. PD (7/84)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge produced its first vintage as a bonded winery in 1962. With the 1982 wines we celebrate our twentieth anniversary. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged-cap fermentation, use of the natural wine yeasts, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
