Vintage Notes

We have made this single vineyard Zinfandel since 1966. In 1982 the cool growing season gave us the opportunity to harvest these old vines at lower sugars than usual. The wine shows the berry fruit typical of the vineyard and the austerity and elegance that we have seen in our best claret-style Zinfandels. This excellent wine should be enjoyable by fall yet will develop further over the next four or five years.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge produced its first vintage as a bonded winery in 1962. With the 1982 wines we celebrate our twentieth anniversary. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged-cap fermentation, use of the natural wine yeasts, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
