Vintage Notes

The York Creek Ranch includes three Petite Sirah vineyards – Devils Hill, Dynamite Hill, and Lake. From 1971 to 1979, we harvested the oldest vines on Devils Hill and bottled the wine under the York Creek Label. In 1980, we introduced the Devils Hill label and used the York Creek name for the wine from the remaining vineyards. This limited release for our Advance Tasting Program combines the sixty-year old vines on Devils Hill with those from the Lake vineyard. It is made in the style of a classic Rhône wine, and should be laid down for at least four or five years.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge produced its first vintage as a bonded winery in 1962. With the 1982 wines we celebrate our twentieth anniversary. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged-cap fermentation, use of the natural wine yeasts, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
