Vintage Notes

This cool summer and warm fall produced an elegant, complex wine from the two old Zinfandel vineyards on Monte Bello Ridge. The crop was large and the less mature sections were not harvested. The unusual character that has been typical of these wines through eighteen vintages is evident in this tart “food wine.” It should be enjoyable this fall yet develop further with three or four years in bottle. PD (6/83)

History

Begun in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s chateau-size California wineries, that is, those that limit production in order to attempt the highest quality. All our wines are aged in small oak cooperage with the majority receiving no cellar treatment other than racking. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, we overlook San Francisco Bay.
