Vintage Notes

For more than a decade we have produced a small quantity of Petite Sirah from the York Creek ranch. In 1980, in addition to the old Devil’s Hill vineyard, we were offered the Lake vineyard previously made by Freemark Abbey as well as the young vines on Dynamite Hill. Though the production of any mountain vineyard is never large, we at last had enough barrels to offer this fine wine to all our customers. It shows elegance and spiciness and will soften further with three or four years of bottle age.

History

Founded in 1962, Ridge was one of the first of the “domain” wineries. The vineyards are chosen for their low yield and distinctive character, and all our wines are aged in small oak cooperage with the majority receiving no cellar treatment other than racking. Located on the Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyard are 10 miles south of Palo Alto, 15 miles inland from the ocean, and more than 2000 feet above San Francisco Bay.
