Vintage Notes

Planted in 1925, this steep, closely spaced vineyard at Devil’s Hill on the York Creek ranch has been the source of our Petite Sirah since the outstanding vintage of 1971. Due to the low yield of these vines, the wines have shown a concentration and intensity of character more typical of old-style Côte Rôtie than present-day Petite Sirah. This rich, lovely wine should begin to soften by fall, but will develop fully with five ten to years in bottle.

History

Founded in 1962, Ridge was one of the first of the “domain” wineries. The vineyards are chosen for their low yield and distinctive character, and all our wines are aged in small oak cooperage with the majority receiving no cellar treatment other than racking. Located on the Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyard are 10 miles south of Palo Alto, 15 miles inland from the ocean, and more than 2000 feet above San Francisco Bay.
