Vintage Notes

In this vintage the Monte Bello vineyards matured as much as three weeks earlier than they have in any recent year. By the time all the grapes could be picked they were riper than what we consider ideal for the claret style we attempt in our estate Cabernet. Only a few barrels were bottled as Monte Bello while the rest are included in this full, rich wine. Though it is beginning to soften, it will benefit with several more years of bottle age.

History

Begun in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s chateau-size California wineries, that is, those that limit production in order to attempt the highest quality. All our wines are aged in small oak cooperage with the majority receiving no cellar treatment other than racking. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, we overlook San Francisco Bay.
