Antonio Galloni of Vinous Media recently reviewed a host of 2021 Sonoma wines. Ridge Vineyards’ Mancini Ranch and Geyserville wines garnered impressive 95 and 94+ point scores, respectively. Read on for Galloni’s impression of the vintage and full reviews of the wines.
It’s far too early for me to have a complete view of the 2021 vintage in Sonoma County, but the wines I have tasted so far suggest this is a very good and possibly outstanding vintage. The best 2021s are deep, beautifully layered and highly expressive of site.

Ridge’s 2021 Mancini Ranch, 73% Carignane and 27% Zinfandel, is a heady, explosive wine. Super-ripe red cherry fruit, rose petal, cedar and a kick of sweet American oak all race across the palate. This juicy Russian River field blend hits all the right notes. (April 2023)
The 2021 Geyserville hits the palate with a burst of dark red/purplish fruit, sweet spice, lavender, chocolate, dried herbs and American oak. I would be in no rush to open the 2021, as it is clearly an infant at this stage. The blend is 76% zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah and 2% Alicante Bouschet. The 2021 is a powerhouse, that much is pretty clear. (April 2023)
