Ridge Named one of the World’s Most Wanted US Wines

Wine Searcher

Earlier this year, Wine Searcher named Ridge’s Monte Bello as one of the “World’s Most Wanted US Wines.” The article included two lists:

  1. Most Wanted US Wines/Spirits on Wine-Searcher
  2. Most Wanted non-Napa US Wines on Wine-Searcher

The first list includes Napa wines and Bourbon to showcase just how much these two drinks have dominated the industry. In fact, the list titled “Most Wanted US Wines/Spirits on Wine-Searcher” is comprised almost entirely of either Napa wines or Bourbon. Of the top ten results, only one does not fall into either category. And that exception is Ridge Vineyards’ Monte Bello. The list appeared as follows:

  • Opus One, Napa Valley, 94 points, $398
  • Blanton’s Original Single Barrel Bourbon, $106
  • Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 90 points, $87
  • Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 96 points, $3517
  • Dominus Estate, Napa Valley, 95 points, $275
  • Harlan Estate, Napa Valley, 97 points, $1085
  • George T Stagg Straight Bourbon, 90 points, $715
  • WL Weller 12 Year Old Wheated Bourbon, $254
  • Joseph Phelps Vineyards Insignia, Napa Valley, 94 points, $245
  • Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello, Santa Cruz Mountains, 94 points, $220

The second list, “Most Wanted non-Napa US Wines on Wine-Searcher,” excluded any Napa-based wines or Bourbon results and focused on the outliers that were succeeding in this Napa and Bourbon dominated market. In this list, Monte Bello took over as the top result. This ranking included the following:

  • Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello, Santa Cruz Mountains, 94 points, $220
  • Silver Oak Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, 89 points, $90
  • Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, 95 points, $227
  • Austin Hope Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles, 92 points, $51
  • Domaine de la Cote Bloom’s Field Pinot Noir, Sta Rita Hills, 92 points, $78
  • Jordan Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, 90 points, $66
