In a recent article from The New York Times, wine writer Eric Asimov offers an alternative to the headlines citing wine’s struggles. Rather than scoring wines or commenting on the current vintage, Asimov reminds us to look at the bigger picture. He encourages us to regard wine as something more than an alcoholic escape. All at once, wine is an expression of a vineyard’s place and a winemaker’s creativity, an interpretation of a drinker’s palate, and a vital piece of community and culture.
Much of what we do here at RIDGE is based on tradition. We rely on the passed-down knowledge of the generations of farmers before us, we look back to the tried-and-true methods of winemaking, and we toast to the successes (Judgment of Paris) and struggles (Prohibition) of the wine world that have led to our ability to enjoy a glass today. This web of knowledge can only take place in a unified industry.
‘The Community of Food and Wine’ opens up the discussion of the importance of community in the world of food and wine. In these three videos, Ridge Vineyards’ Chairman of the Board, Paul Draper, explores this connection with friends.
