Clarksburg
13.4%
Brambly blackberry, cranberry, forest floor, anise, violet and sweet tobacco leaf. Flavors confirm aromas. Formidable tannin and structure with balanced acidity. Genetically related to syrah. SR (2/25)
A rare variety to find planted in California, this fruit grows in Clarksburg. Warm days are cooled by the afternoon breeze off the Sacramento River Delta. As this variety can be rather tannic and acidic it was fermented in an open top tank with minimal pump overs to limit extraction. After twelve months in barrel, the wine has softened. Four to six years of bottle age will bring generous rewards. SR (6/24)
Clarksburg, California has been the Heringer family home since 1868 when John Heringer immigrated from Holland to California. John came to the Sacramento River Delta with his family to farm and build his legacy. Through seven generations, the family has farmed various row crops such as alfalfa, corn, sugar beets, and tomatoes. In the 1970s, the Heringer family planted their first vineyard. Heringer Estate vineyards are certified sustainable through California Rules, and they are committed to herbicide-free farming. To enhance their sustainability practices, they have built a partnership with the Wildlife Care Association of Sacramento to provide a habitat for rehabilitated owls.
