Vintage Notes

This is the first Ridge vintage from these old vines. The vineyard, planted in the thirties, forties, and fifties to zinfandel and carignane, has been tended over the years by Dino Buchignani, and is now cared for by his son Stan. It is one of the most impeccably maintained old vineyards in California. We chose House Block as the richest and most complex of the four small carignane parcels. The grapes were harvested in the first week of October with fully mature flavors and tannins. Planted for centuries across Spain, southern France, and Italy, this varietal has provided a lovely “Mediterranean” wine that is a true delight. It should be at its best over the next five years. History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare sites where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Our aim is to guide the natural process; using traditional methods, we strive to produce exceptional wines from distinctive fruit.
