Vintage Notes

Ridge is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains Viticultural Area overlooking San Francisco Bay. Along these foothills, in the mid-19th century, French settlers planted the first Cabernet vines in California. The climate and soils have proved ideal for the varietal. In the fine 1985 vintage, the oak contributes to the spicy fruit typical of this cool appellation. The tannins in this excellent wine are firm but balanced, and will soften considerably in the first year or two after release.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries—limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of natural yeast submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at each transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery overlooks San Francisco Bay
