Vintage Notes

Our Advance Tasting Program members gave an enthusiastic reception to the 1996 Sangiovese, so we decided to continue making a limited release from this small parcel on the Lytton West vineyard. In Tuscany, the varietal is often combined with cabernet, but our blind tastings indicated that merlot’s chalky elegance was preferable. Aged for twelve months in air-dried american oak, this spicy wine has lovely fruit and earthy nuances. It will be at its best over the next four to five years. PD (11/98)

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal produce distinctive character. With minimal intervention, we guide that process—always attempting to produce exceptional wines.
