Vintage Notes

Ridge first made barbera in 1977 from old vines in the Hecker Pass area; in the late eighties, and ending with the 1990 vintage, we made ATP-only quantities of barbera from Rancho Pequeño in the town of Sonoma. This is the second vintage from our own vines at Lytton Springs West. The long, mild 1997 growing season resulted in beautifully ripe grapes and firm acidity. Full-bodied and sensuous, the wine is enjoyable now, and will be at its best over the next four or five years.

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, exploring California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Fine wine, when made traditionally, is the result of a natural process. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
