Vintage Notes

Realizing that there were not enough grapes to assure a Whitten Ranch release from Geyserville every year, we embarked on a search for old carignan to be used especially for the Advance Tasting Program. In 1993, for the first time, we harvested the fifty-five-year-old vines on Sommer Ranch in the Alexander Valley. Lively berry fruit and racy spice characterize this varietal-and this wine. Balanced and complex, it is marvelous now, and will be at its finest over the next few years. PD (2/95)

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, exploring California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil and varietal are ideally matched. Fine wine, when made traditionally, is the result of a natural process. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
