Vintage Notes

At our Lytton Springs vineyard, we harvest the exposed hills first, moving on to the equally old but larger vines on the flat bench to the west. One block with a high percentage of zinfandel vines was allowed to ripen well beyond normal sugar levels, providing grapes for this Late Harvest. Rich, with sweet, jammy raspberry fruit, it is a truly voluptuous wine. Enjoyable now, it will develop fully over the next ten years. PD (4/93)

History

30 years ago, Ridge made its first Monte Bello, and two years later its first zinfandel. We searched California for other great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are perfectly matched. To bring the distinctive character of each vineyard to the wine, we use the minimal handling typical of traditional winemaking.
