Vintage Notes

We harvest the Jimsomare Ranch as ten separate parcels. Four of the five picked in September and early October were selected for this limited release. The rest, maturing later, make up a major part of our 1989 Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet. The berries were small, and the clusters quite loose; yields were one ton per acre. The racy, green-olive nose and concentrated blackberry fruit are typical of the vineyard. The wine is rich, with very firm tannins. It will develop fully with twelve to fifteen years of bottle age. PD (4/91)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques-including use of natural yeasts in extended fermentations and careful racking for clarity-have set Ridge apart. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
