Vintage Notes

This release for our Advance Tasting Program is from one of the oldest sections of the Geyserville vineyard on the Trentadue Ranch. In 1986, the cool growing season produced lower tannin levels than usual, and we included 4% from the old Petite Sirah vines to add spice and definition. The wine is showing intense fruit, and by release should have softened sufficiently to be quite enjoyable. Given how well Geyserville ages, I would venture that this wine will continue to develop over the next six or seven years. PD (1/88)

History

Begun in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s chateau-size California wineries-those that limit production to attempt the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of the natural yeasts in extended, submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
