September 03, 2010: September First Friday

Ridge Vineyards welcomes you to the September edition of First Friday! For this episode, we’ll be showcasing the new September ATP release, the 2007 Buchignani Ranch Zinfandel. The delicious result of an early-breaking growing season displaying a full, balanced crop and moderate sugar levels, this wine is described by winemaker John Olney as being “rich, yet elegant”, and displaying “firm tannins and bright, intense fruit.” Sounds good to me! Sound good to you? Then come join us at First Friday, and be among the very first to sample this new vintage from one of our favorite old-vine properties (it was planted in the 30s, 40s, and 50s), the Buchignani Ranch!

Shipment Pick-Up Details: This wine will be available for pick-up for our ATP members. An RSVP must be submitted no later than Thursday, September 2, to do so. If you do not RSVP by this deadline, your wines will be shipped.

The event runs from 4-7pm at the Monte Bello Tasting Room (Cupertino) and all day long (11am to 5pm) at the Lytton Springs Tasting Room (Healdsburg).

Please note that while this is a Member Event, we are more than happy to host guests of our members as well!

September 04, 2010: Fall Release Tasting!

Please join us in celebrating the new Fall Releases, and be amongst the very first to taste new vintages of Lytton Springs, Pagani Ranch, and York Creek, as well as Monte Bello (both the Chardonnay and our flagship Cabernet Blend)! Anticipation is running very high for all these designations (92 pts, Robert Parker, ’07 Monte Bello!), and this will be a wonderful opportunity to experience them on their debut weekend!

This event will take place in both our tasting room locations (Lytton Springs & Monte Bello), and while no RSVP is required, we do ask that you make a reservation if you plan on attending with a group of 8 or more. The tasting rooms are open from 11-5pm both Saturday and Sunday, and please note, this is a two-day event!

The cost for our special Fall Release Tasting Flight is $25 for Non-Members (includes Ridge logo glass), and is complimentary for Members. (For our guests who opt not to enjoy our new Fall Release flight, we will offer, as always, a pair of complimentary wines to taste.)

2007 Zinfandel Buchignani Ranch

93% ZINFANDEL, 7% CARIGNANE

The 2007 growing season got off to an early start at Buchignani Ranch; budbreak began the first week of April. Unlike the vineyard's carignane vines, which set a very small crop, the zinfandel vines set a full, balanced one. A cooler-than-normal August meant fewer shriveled berries; sugar levels, therefore, were moderate. We picked this small, seven-acre block in three passes—August 30, September 3 and 4. The grapes were fully crushed, and their juice pumped over the floating cap of skins every day during the seven-day naturalyeast fermentation. After pressing, the wine was racked to air-dried american oak for twelve months' aging. Firm tannins and bright, intense fruit mark the 2007 Buchignani Zinfandel. This rich—yet elegant—wine may be enjoyed now, in its youth, and over the next five years, as it matures. JO (8/08)

The event runs from 5-7pm at both the Monte Bello Tasting Room (Cupertino) and the Lytton Springs Tasting Room (Healdsburg).
